Hey there 👋 I’m Mathilde. We are Objet. We explore the intersection of consumerism, myth, satisfaction, desire, joy and pride. Not specifically in that order. To brag at your next dinner, Objet is the french word for 'object' and should be pronounced 'OB-JEH'.
If you’re new here, welcome !
How do you generally introduce yourself?
Quite naturally (or not), we have learnt to introduce ourselves in many different ways. From a regular job title (business card), to a quick bio followed by opinionated threads (Twitter), from professional achievements and praises (LinkedIn), to the photo series of a perfect life (Instagram), from a list of cravings (Pinterest) to regular thoughts and essays (blog). The way we introduce ourselves triggers a certain kind of encounters, a certain kind of discussions, that are relatively straight forward to anticipate.
Our numerous discussions with folks who are somehow fascinated by how magnetic objects can be, have led us to explore a creative and intimate angle to introduce ourselves: a selection of life anecdotes, hiding behind our most significant objects.
Here is mine. Nice to meet you.
Me in six objects
👉 So tell me, what are the six objects that are the most significant to you today?
today • past you and future you may have different answers, it’s a living thing
six • the perfect balance between diversity of options yet scarcity of angles - put it differently, you’ll have to make choices
significant • that add value to your life - spark you joy, even ✨
NEW✨🎙 use your voice to record these stories
When we sort of step back and see the bigger picture and how ephemeral certain objects and phases are, it can offer some insight into how we view ourselves in a given moment and whether or not that view has stayed consistent throughout the years. - L.
I like the thought of doing me in 6 on a regular cadence, checking in with myself - are these things still a good way to showcase my identity? how have i changed or grown since the last time i looked at my me in 6? - K.

Cool reads.
📰 About identity, this piece what makes you, you explores what “ I ” really is about. My body? my brain? my data (aka memory)? my soul? If you have 10 min while drinking your next coffee ☕️, I highly suggest this pretty dizzy read from the good old Tim Urban.
📰 About the art of commerce and its methods of seduction. “In French, “window shopping” is translated, with a frisson of vulgarity, as “lèche-vitrine,” window licking.”
📖 About what’s mine! “A hidden set of rules governs who owns what--explaining everything from whether you can recline your airplane seat to why HBO lets you borrow a password illegally*--and in this lively and entertaining guide, two acclaimed law professors reveal how things become mine.” Here’s a great summary in French.
*HBO learnt from the mistakes of the music industry: “(Illegal) account sharing presents the brand to more and more people (…) what we are building is -video- addicts.” CEO of HBO said. Tolerating theft is a long time investment.
Til next time!

… leaving you on that note
What if Objet was to facilitate cherry-picked, hazardous conversations and encounters, based on objects and their stories ; not on a performance of any kind? What would we learn about ourselves and our identity? What kind of person would we start talking to…?
